  • E-Romance

Five years ago, I found this man online who totally swept me off my feet. We talked for about three years, and then lost contact for two when my email address just stopped working! Miraculously, he found me again on myspace.com, using my NON-WORKING email addy! It sounds really cheesy but it was like this was all meant to happen just this way. He came up to New York and we finally met in person after five whole years. The sparks flew! He was even more handsome in person! Since then we have been talking for long hours every night, and he wants me to take the trip to see him this time where he lives, in Las Vegas. For the past  five years he has been my little secret. No one knows of our long-distance e-romance. How the heck do I explain this to my family? Is it even worth the drama? After all, I have only met the guy once in person. I can still step out while I have one foot in!

My family had no idea about my boyfriend for two years. What I did was tell one person, and let it trickle down to everyone else. Everybody knew in a couple days. Lol.

I generally don't share dating details with my family, so maybe I'm not the best one to answer this. But personally I'm waiting to bring my family into my relationship when it's serious enough that it may lead to marriage. Other than that, I'm just inviting more criticism or drama. I guess it depends on your relationship with your family, and what you think will be the result if you tell them. After all, continuing a relationship with a guy you met online, especially if you live across the country from each other, is a bold and serious move. Will they encourage you? Criticize you? Be honest with you? Tell you what's in your best interest?
